Sponsored by the Tropical Sierra Foundation, the radio program "The Friends of the Forest" started. The conductors, Mariano Rodriguez, journalist, and Samantha Kennedy, biologists, said that "we'll have environmental issues and materials from the Blue Flag Ecological Program for Educational Centers. We are seeking a bounding in minds and positive actions that become part of daily culture and not a fashion."

Technological tool against illegal logging

The Minister of the Atmosphere of the Government of Costa Rica, Robert Dobles announces this Tuesday 7 of November a project to introduce technological tools that it will reduce to the illegal cutting and slow down the deforestation. They indicated that the cutting of trees it was 35% in the 2003 to a 15% last year, indicating that Costa Rica takes the advantage as far as protection of the forests of all Centroamerica, nevertheless is not necessary to lower the guard. The wooded cover in Costa Rica maintains a recovery rate from 1997 when it was of 42%.

A new department of the coporation BAXTER is Carbone Neutral

Tree year ago the department of Ingeneers from BAXTER become Carnbone Neutral planting 100 trees to compnsated the emissions of CO2 that they produce for flying all over the world attending to business meetings.

In this ocasion the department of  Supplychain Managemen of BAXTER calculated in the Tropic Joes Calculator the amount that they need to compensated and it shows that it will requiere 80 trees a year.

Final Report

Thanks to the funding provided by Merck Sharp & Dome, the Tropical Sierra Foundation was able to work with 40 children from ten different schools of San Rafael de Heredia, in Costa Rica.


These children came two Saturdays a month for almost a year, raising awareness and environmental education in Monte de la Cruz, Future Environmental Education Center of the community.
